THE PROJECT

Swat Motorway Phase I (80km)

Constructed under 'Build Operate Transfer' basis, the Swat Motorway is a high speed, fenced, 4-lane divided Provincial Motorway having an approximate length of 80 Kilometers. The length includes the construction of a twin-tube tunnel system consisting of a sectional length of 1.8 Kilometers in one direction. In both the directions, the tunnel length is a total of 3.6 Kilometers. The motorway forms part of the trade corridor taking off from the Kernal Sher Khan Interchange located at the M-1 Motorway and terminates at the Chakdara Intersection on the National Highway N-45 and N-95 in the district Malakand. The Swat motorway provides an alternate route for the Districts of Swat, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Chitral, Shangla, Malakand Agency, Bajour Agency and other parts of the Malakand region. Hence not only boosting trade and access within the region, but increasing the amount of tourism and the ease of access within the hillside area that was dearly needed. The reasons involved particularly due to the recent saturation and burst of people flocking over from all over Pakistan to visit the area that was recently cleared of terrorism.
