QUETTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
THE PROJECT
Main Runway at the Quetta airport is being jointly used by Civil Aviation and Samungli Air base (PAF) for currently being the only facility available both for Passenger aircrafts and fighter jets. Mainly civil aircraft such as Airbus 300, 310, Boeing jets B-737, Fokker category ATR-42 and F-7 fighter jets are using the runway. Limited number of operating Haj flights were entertained at the airport which mainly included PIA’s Boeing 777-300ER jets which is categorized as a heavier aircraft and exceeds the structural capacity of the existing airfield pavements. The assignment highlights the existing condition of airport pavements, geotechnical investigation and Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) testing carried out with a view to develop a pavement rehabilitation design strategy that is viable to cater future air traffic expected for the next twenty (20) years.
