THE PROJECT

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) is constructing the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR), a 38.3-kilometer, six-lane (3+3), controlled-access road extending from N-5 near Banth to the Thalian Interchange on M-2. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. This traffic study assesses the impact of RRR’s integration on the capacity and operational performance of three key road sections: M-2 from Thalian Interchange to Islamabad Toll Plaza, M-1 from Islamabad Toll Plaza to AWT Interchange, and the Link Road from Islamabad Toll Plaza to N-5 at Chungi No. 26. The study evaluates the existing Level of Service (LOS) on these sections and projects future LOS following the opening of RRR, accounting for the additional traffic entering the existing road network.
